What is the best way you can express your love for someone? Pray for them!

Today is National Day of Prayer, and it reminds me that we are to love one another as the Lord has loved us (John 13:34).

As followers of Christ, we ought to have some specific character traits that show evidence of our faith. Loving one another is a primary trait. We see this throughout scripture. For instance:

“This is His commandment that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us.” (1 John 3:23)

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” (1 John 4:7-8)

“Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us.” (1 John 4:11-12)

“We love because He first loved us. If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should love his brother also.” (1 John 4:19-21)

Also, Christ demonstrates His love for us in that He lives to intercede for us (Romans 8:34, Hebrews 7:25).

As we love one another through the act of prayer, we invite God in to do more considerable work in us and through us. Romans 12:9-13, NIV, demonstrates what this kind of love in action looks like:

“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love — honor one another above yourselves.  Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”

Let’s be reminded today to demonstrate our love for one another by faithfully praying.

Lord, I pray for my brothers and sisters in Christ. I ask that you meet them where they are and remind them just how much You love them. Renew their desire to love others as You have loved them. May You find us faithfully interceding for one another daily. In Jesus Name, Amen.
