While washing dishes, I heard a loud crash behind me! In the oven, I had one of my favorite dishes with four baking potatoes in it, and to my dismay, the dish shattered into a thousand pieces.

As I stood there peering into this 425-degree hot oven, I wondered how I was going to get this cleaned up. I had some guests arriving soon, and I needed these potatoes to cook.

Have you ever had something unexpected happen and wondered how or if things could work out?

Maybe you or a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer, and you feel your world is falling apart.

Maybe your marriage is shattered into pieces.

Maybe your parent’s health is crashing, and they need more intentional care provided by you.

Maybe you are unexpectedly pregnant, and the pressure of it all is crushing you.

Whatever has happened, take heart in knowing-

…In Him, all things hold together (Colossians 1:17b).

…In Him, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).

…In Him, all are secure who believe in Him because there is hope and safety (Job 11:18).

…In Him, all things can work together for good (Romans 8:28).

If all this is true, and it is, then we must guard our thinking. The kind of thinking that leads us to believe there is no hope, healing, or help.

We must stop believing our stinking thinking and begin accepting truths that are reliable.

God can do far more than we are capable of:

“Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” (Ephesians 3:20, NLT)

God can restore your world that seems to be falling apart. He can repair shattered marriages. He can help you and grant you wisdom in caring for your parents. He can renew your plans as you bring a new baby into this world. He Can!

As you ponder these truths remember that while you may feel as though your world has shattered around you, God still holds all things together (Colossians 1:17). Press into His word, His heart, and His strength and discover He is doing something new and fresh in your life (Isaiah 43:18-19).

In case you are wondering about the outcome of my baking potatoes and the shattered glass, I managed to get most of the glass out with heatproof potholders. I may have singed some arm hair in the process, but who needs hairy arms anyway? 🙂 I was also able to save the potatoes and they were delicious!
