During one of my morning quiet times with the Lord, He used a statement from the Apostle Paul, in the book of Philippians, which caused me to pause. Paul had a secret; A remedy that helped him remain emotionally stable, spiritually sound, and motivated to stay on course with God.

I want to know his secret to be content. More often than I care to admit my circumstances can affect me in negative ways.

My flesh wants to worry, but worrying decays my body and mind. Nothing good arises from pacing the floor or having my thoughts consumed with it.

Do your circumstances affect you in negative ways?

Maybe you are one day away from being delinquent on your mortgage payment, and you are losing sleep.

Maybe you are having health issues, and while waiting for results, your mind is trapped in the “what if’s,” scenarios.

Maybe you are in a difficult job, and your reaction is to eat comfort food resulting in weight gain.

Maybe you are saying goodbye to a friend and your emotions are overwhelming.

Whatever circumstance we are in the midst of there is hope and peace right at our feet. But to experience it we have a choice to make.

In Philippians 4:12-13 Paul states that he knows how to get along with humble means, and how to live in prosperity. But what he says next is so crucial for us to learn: “in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.”

What is this secret of his?

To exalt Christ above all his circumstances. He believed that Christ was sufficient above any need or any circumstance.

Christ was enough!

Paul knew from experience that he could do anything through Christ because it is He that strengthens him to walk through any life experience.

Is Christ enough for you? Is He sufficient?

If your circumstances caused you to lose your home, your health, or a relationship would God be enough? If so, then you would remain emotionally stable, spiritually sound, and motivated to stay the course God has for you.

However, if He is not sufficient then know that your body and mind will decay from worry. All your efforts of worrying will produce fear, health issues, along with so many other negative effects.

Let’s make the better choice together. Right here. Right now.

You and I are choosing to believe God can see us through anything life throws at us.

We are choosing to recognize God is enough when everything and everyone else fails us.

We are choosing to be content in all of our circumstances, no matter what, because we know the Apostle Paul’s secret.

Now walk in the hope and peace you chose to receive from Christ and share the secret.
