Any distance from one’s child is too far. But when they are hundreds of miles away, like mine, the heartaches to see their face. I am grateful for the technology of FaceTime. It partially fills the void of missing their presence.

However, it still leaves a lingering longing to be closer in touch.

How about you?

Do you communicate through FaceTime with your loved ones?

Do you wish you could be in the presence of your parents, old friends, siblings, or children, but distance hinders you?

God helps us with this dilemma when we have FaceTime with Him.

I love the passion expressed in Psalms 27:8-9 to see God’s face.

“When You said, “Seek My face,”

My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.”(NKJV)

When we spend time seeking God’s face, we will find Him (Jeremiah 29:13-14a).

But this begs to ask the question, “What does it look like to have FaceTime with God?”

I believe the NLT version of Psalms 27:8-9 sets us up for a better understanding:

“My heart has heard You say, “Come and talk with Me.”

And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”

  • We must first pursue the Lord with a desire to be encased in His presence.
  • We must worship Him with authenticity.
  • We must entrust Him with our longing to be in the presence of our loved ones.
  • We must be willing to focus on who God is and not what He can do for us.

Simply put, we must seek after God’s heart and believe He is who He says He is.

The intimacy He allows us to have with Him fulfills so many voids in our lives. So, when we are empty, or longing to be in the company of a loved one, we must first be in the presence of our Savior. When we are, it ignites a passion for worshiping the only God that truly knows our heart and can satisfy our soul.

He is faithful to restore our grief with His love, remove our fears with His trustworthiness, and recognize when we need His comfort.

“I prayed to the Lord, and He answered me. He freed me from all my fears. Those who look to Him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.”  (NLT Psalm 34:4-5)

God’s glory shines upon us when we have spent time in His presence, and His radiance fills the voided spaces in our hearts as we long to be in the presence of our loved ones.

When my phone rings with that promising FaceTime ringtone, my heart drops! I know I am about to spend some quality time with my children and because I have spent time with the Lord, I will be satisfied. The Lord is my strength, and He helps me.

Are you ready to FaceTime with God?

Go for it!

His word promises us that when we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us (James 4:8a).
