While sitting in my chair, bending forward tear drops began filling my eyeglass lenses. My spirit within was grieving while my heart asked God, “Can I trust You?”

This position and question is a familiar place to me. As life brings grief, problems of “why”, and helplessness, I find myself seeking the face of God. He is my safe place. There is nothing I share with Him that He does not keep between the two of us.

Allowing myself to be honest with God deepens my intimacy with Him.

The more profound part of my relationship with God is rooted in my trust in Him because He is a trustworthy God.

Have you wondered if you can trust God?

We often bring a list to God telling Him that we trust Him with our concerns, worries, hopes, and dreams, giving Him specific, desired outcomes.

I trust Your will for my future.

I trust You will heal my friend.

I trust You will watch over my child.

I trust You will bring justice.

I trust You will…

But what about showing up with your heart first in a state of complete surrender to His will?

To trust God is to love God and to love God is to know God.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding. In all your ways know Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6 CSB)

When we go to God with our hearts first, we are vulnerable with Him. We demonstrate that we not only love Him, and know Him, but that we trust Him.

God knows our heart. He searches the crevices and knows you better than you know yourself.

There is something very freeing about opening your heart to God and letting Him see every part of you, holding nothing back. He is a compassionate God that will handle your trust in Him in a loving way.

God is love (1 John 4:8).

“The Lord is gracious and compassionate,

slow to anger and great in faithful love.” (Psalm 145:8 CSB)

Are you ready to take your heart to God before you take your list?

Wherever you are right now, pause.

Lean into God, and listen to His heartbeat for you; His heart for you to trust Him, to love Him, and to know Him as the trustworthy God He is.

I know that when I meet with Him in my special chair and lean forward yielding my heart to Him, I’m in good hands.

I know that every time I need to ask Him if I can trust Him His answer is yes.

Genuinely trusting God plants our roots of faith deep, allowing us to be unafraid as we surrender our hearts to a trustworthy God (Jeremiah 17:7-8).

Will you trust Him today?

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2 Corinthians 3:17)

Psalm 56:4

“In God, whose word I praise,

in God I trust…”
