Have you ever created a routine with God? Mine began during a walk with Him one day.
The neighborhood I lived in offered a one-way entrance and exit with a stop sign and a broad white line on the pavement. Though the line had always been there, my heart was opened to a new meaning of it one day. I had been prayer-walking and speaking with God about trusting Him with something I knew I needed to surrender.
Can you relate? Do you ever struggle trusting God with something you know you need to surrender to Him?
During my conversation, He reminded me that He is trustworthy and there is nothing I release to Him that He doesn’t help me through. I recognized I needed to draw a line stepping away from my fears and into God’s peace, promises, and power.
As I was approaching the line at the stop sign, it was as if God said, “There’s a line, will you cross it? Will you trust Me?”. With heart racing, I placed one foot over the line and then the next. I stood there for a moment looking to my right and left feeling the freedom from my fears as I told God, “By my will I surrender. I give it all to You. Have Your will and way with…”
What are you clinging to so tightly causing you to live in fear?
Do you desire for God to be Sovereign (in control) of your circumstances, your life?
What is holding you back?
When you and I hesitate to yield to God we are telling Him we don’t trust Him. Ouch! It hurt even to type the words.
Surrender is necessary for overcoming any distrust we have.
Deuteronomy 30 speaks of God keeping His promise of restoration. He speaks of choosing between a curse and a blessing. (Side note: God never makes us do something. Instead, He has given us a free will to choose.)
“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So, choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him.” (Deut. 30:19-120)
In the verses above, God instructs us to do three things when we choose the blessing – life. They are critical to living the blessed life – the surrendered life:
1.)Â Â Â Love the Lord your God.
2.)Â Â Â Obey His voice.
3.)Â Â Â Hold fast to Him.
God promises life when we truly love Him, walk in His ways, and keep His commandments.
God desires for us to be wholeheartedly devoted to Him.
He blesses us in ways only He can.
He is intimate with the upright and blesses the dwelling of the righteous (Proverbs 3:32-33).
Wherever you are in your struggle, whatever you are holding onto, God will conquer your fears the moment you choose to trust Him and surrender it all to Him. He will replace your worry with His peace. He will help you each step of the way.
What is your defining line of surrender?
Are you ready to cross the line encountering God’s presence and peace?
Crossing the line:
If you are willing, right where you are, seated or standing, envision a line in front of you. As you place both feet over the line, let God know that with all your heart and best ability you are choosing to trust Him and surrender (name it).
Friend, fear no longer has a place where God’s peace reigns.
Each time I would cross my line of surrender, I would then turn around and cross back over asking God to bless each step of obedience, be my help and strength, and to grow my trust and faith in Him. With each step, I became more confident that God is trustworthy. He’s got this!
He will be faithful to help you with each step of obedience, as well.
The daily routine of surrender is an act of our will not an emotion. It is not always easy, but necessary for living a blessed life.
Be blessed, my friend.
